Acerola cherry is known best for its high (17.5%) vitamin C content. In addition to this, acerola cherry contains a high concentration of polyphenol antioxidants from the proanthocyanidin and anthocyanin classes. Acerola is also high in other vitamins (beta-carotenes), minerals (iron, calcium, phosphorous), and has an impressive total anti-oxidant count.

General information
Malpighia glabra can be found growing from Texas and Florida to Brazil, and is believed to have been originated in the Yucatan. It is a fast growing shrub with white and pink flowers bearing oval shaped fruits with a tarty taste. The powder itself does not have the characteristic citrus taste of pure vitamin c, instead, acerola has an earthy taste, with the citrus flavor resting in the background. It is a common belief amongst herbalists that whole herbs are better for the body than extracts or isolates. Acerola is a fine example of this, providing the body with numerous minerals and co-factors which assist the body utilize the high vitamin C content of the fruit.
