Our ashwagandha foliage has similar, but slightly different effects than the popular root powder. The foliage is a golden color and can be crumpled easily in the hands and smoked in a pipe or with a rolling paper. Ashwagandha, being a member of the nightshade family, like tobacco, contains trace amounts of nicotine. These small concentrations of nicotine and other nightshade compounds can stimulate the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, and offer relief to those who are quitting or reducing their nicotine usage, with none of the addictive tendency that comes with tobacco.
