The California poppy is the state flower of California and is considered an ancient plant whose origins are not entirely known. Native Americans in California prized them as a source of food and medicine. Tea made from the plant has a sedative, analgesic, and anxiolytic action. The effect is far milder than that of the opium poppy.

Tea made from the plant has a calming, pain relieving, and centering effect. It is recommended to be brewed in amounts ranging from 2-8 grams with additional herbs. Green tea & Sassafras are both recommended.
