Also known as
L-Phenylalanine is an essential alpha-amino acid and dietary precursor for the amino acid tyrosine thyroid hormones, and the catecholamine family of neurotransmitters such as dopamine, norepinephrine (noradrenaline), and epinephrine (adrenaline), as well as melanin, an endogenous antioxidant which darkens skin color to protect from the sun. The L-isomer is the natural form of this compound, which is used to biosynthesize proteins, while the D-isomer is inhibits the metabolism of enkephalin, an endogenous pain reliever. L-phenylalanine is found naturally in the breast milk of mammals and most foods. As an essential amino acid, phenylalanine is not synthesized in humans and other animals, rather it must be consumed through diet or supplementation.
Recommended amount per dose is 500-2000 mg, or 1-4 size '00' capsules.
L-Phenylalanine is an effective catecholamine precursor, increasing levels of tyrosine, thyroid hormones, phenylethylamine, dopamine, norepinephrine, and related compounds. These systems are linked to enhanced energy levels, awareness, motivation, perceptual acuity, circulation, breathing, weight loss, libido, mood, and more.
All forms of phenylalanine should be avoided by those with Phenylketonuria (PKU), a condition where the body is unable to properly metabolize phenylalanine.
Do not consume without knowing an accurate dosage. A milligram scale is highly recommended.
