Paeonia suffruticosa is a sweet smelling flower whose roots are used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Paeonol is the major bioactive ingredient isolated from this variety of peony, which has activity as an analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, antipyretic, anti-anxiety, and antihistamine. Additionally, paeonol has cardioprotective, neuroprotective, cognition supportive, and anti-aging effects. Paeonol has also been shown to reversibly inhibit MAO a and b subtypes.

Recommended amount per dose is 1-2 teaspoons simmered in tea.
