Summary
Slippery elm is an herb with many uses, rich in mucilage, the same gel type substances found in mullein, it coats and soothes the mouth, throat, stomach, and intestines. When compounded with the Essiac formulation, of which it is one of the chief ingredients, it greatly enhances and assists in the safe and gentle detoxification of the body. Slippery elm is rich in anti-oxidants and can assist with inflammation of the bowels and other conditions related to gastrointestinal discomfort, both by increasing natural mucus secretion and through the actions of its own mucilage. These gel like substances can protect the gastrointestinal tract from ulcers and other inflammatory conditions, including over acidity.
