Nigella sativa is native to Asia and is a less commonly used spice. It has been called by names such as fennel flower, nutmeg flower, Roman coriander, blackseed or black caraway.

Nigella sativa can be sprinkled onto a meal, eaten directly or taken in capsules. Recommended dosage is 1/2-1 tbsp per day. Tea is not effective with this herb.
Nigella sativa has antimicrobial actions, aids digestion, enhances the immune system and has been shown in clinical studies to help with opiate withdrawals.
