Griffonia simplicifolia is a plant from the leguminous bean & seed producing family known as Fabaceae, host to many other powerful plants such as Mucuna pruriens, of which the two share the rare amino acid constituent, 5-htp, which is the amino acid precursor for serotonin. Griffonia contains on average 10% 5-htp content within its seed.
Recommended amount per dose is 250-1000 mg, not exceeding 5000 mg per day. Absorption of griffonia seed is greatly enhanced on an empty stomach when consumed with green tea, carob, or cacao. Filtered teas are much gentler on the body than whole seed consumption.
Griffonia functions as an extremely effective mood enhancer, stress reducing agent, and provides a potent calming and sedative action. Griffonia may help an imbalanced body find stability in regards to mood & emotion.
Griffonia may cause mild nausea for new users when taken in larger amounts. It is recommended to only use 250 mg when first starting griffonia. Do not exceed more than 5000 mg in one day. Consumption of large doses, or with food can cause gastric upset, diarrhea, & nausea. The seeds are high in anti-nutrients, and large doses should not be used regularly.
Do not take if you also take SSRI, MAOI, or TCA type medicines.
Do not consume without knowing an accurate dosage. A milligram scale is highly recommended.
