Also known as
Sceletium tortuosum is a succulent groundcover which produces showy white flowers with threadlike petals. Its fermented roots and leaves were chewed by the Hotentot tribe of S. Africa. The plant contains mesembrine, though the pharmacology of kanna is not fully understood. The plant has been used by South African pastoralists and hunter-gatherers as a mood-altering substance from prehistoric times.

Kanna has been traditionally used by the indigenous people's of Africa to elevate the mood, lessen anxiety, provide a mild boost of energy and relax the mind while heightening the sense of well-being. Kanna has traditionally been eaten, chewed, smoked, or made into tea. Kanna's believed mechanism of action is of SSRI activity. This means it is extremely harmful if ingested alongside MAOI or SSRIs.
Kanna is more stimulant when chewed & more relaxing when consumed. Recommended dosage 200-500 mg.
Fermented kanna is considered a stronger mood lifter while unfermented kanna is considered a stronger calmative. We highly recommend the fermented tea cut.
