Wild yam is tuber root vegetable belonging to the Dioscoreaceae family of plants, home to staple food crops such as the Yam. Wild yam is unique in that it is used medicinally, behaving as an antispasmodic, a mild pain reliever, a circulatory stimulant, balance hormones, and to reduce the pains of menstrual cramps.

Use
Wild yam is commonly used in creams, teas, or taken by itself or in capsules. The taste is very neutral with a slight hint of bitterness, but it is not at all unpleasant. The root has combined muscle relaxing and hormone balancing effects, making it an ideal candidate for menstrual cramps, and a good choice in general for any kind of cramping or muscle spasms. 1-2 teaspoons recommended per serving.
