Also known as
Cannabis sativa, hemp hearts, hulled hemp seeds (THC Free)
Cannabis sativa is a very well known and utilized plant commonly smoked as a narcotic, but also used as a source material for clothing, bio-fuel, paint, plastics, construction materials, and coming full circle with our ancestors, as one of the most nutritious foods that can be found on the face of the planet.
Approximately 44% of the weight of hempseed is edible oils, containing about 80% essential fatty acids (EFAs); e.g., linoleic acid, omega-6 (LA, 55%), alpha-linolenic acid, omega-3 (ALA, 22%), in addition to gamma-linolenic acid, omega-6 (GLA, 1–4%) and stearidonic acid, omega-3 (SDA, 0–2%). Proteins (including edestin) are the other major component (33%). Hempseed's amino acid profile is close to "complete" when compared to more common sources of proteins such as meat, milk, eggs and soy. Hemp protein contains all 21 known amino acids, including the 9 essential ones adult bodies cannot produce. Hemp seed contains the highest Tryptophan to competing amino-acid ratio of any and all known foods. This is important, as Tryptophan is the bodies precursor to Serotonin, a neurotransmitter linked to mood, emotion, & mind.
Origin: Canada, Lithuania
Take 1/2-1 tbsp directly or add to smoothie or shake. Can also be added to tea or taken in capsules.
Hemp seed is tough competition to beat in the superfood world. It is the single best food for increasing Serotonin levels, it reduces inflammation, improves cardiovascular function, protects the brain, and nourishes the entire body. These are few of many of the benefits hemp has to offer both you and mankind as a whole.
