Also known as
Nepeta cataria, Catmint
Catnip is a very popular herb belonging to the mint family, and is known throughout the world for its attractant quality toward felines. Catnip is infused into toys, bedding, treats, and more, and anyone who has had the pleasure of introducing their pets to the herb knows just how much of a delight it is to see them in feline ecstasy.
Cut and sifted foliage
Catnip can be put inside a pet food bowl for direct consumption, stuffed in a cloth teabag for a makeshift cat toy, mixed with cat medicine for easy dosing, or used as a general cat attractant by being stored in one's pocket. In addition to our feline friends, catnip can also be enjoyed by humans, where it is sometimes smoked, but more commonly brewed into tea. 1-2 teaspoons is a recommended dose for humans, cats can do with 1/2 a teaspoon.
Catnip is a favorite herb of many, especially those with paws and whiskers! The herb drives cats up the wall due to the compound nepetalactone, which produces its effects through the feline olfactory response. In humans, the herb can produce a mild relaxing effect, but with the selections available, we think this herb is best saved for cats.
