Whole & Cut Roots
Acorus calamus has been used in India as a cognition enhancing brain aid, to the Native Americans a stimulant, and in both and Asia as a laxative and diuretic, also a purgative in higher amounts. Chewing small pieces of the root was common practice as was tea, however the FDA has recently declared Calamus unfit for human consumption; contrary to it's long term use in traditions such as Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, & Native American Medicine, so as such our Calamus is sold for external purposes only such as aromatherapy and perfumery.
Calamus has been an item of reverence and trade in many cultures for thousands of years. Calamus has been used homeopathically for a wide variety of ills, and its smell makes calamus essential oil valued in the perfume industry.
