Eschscholzia californica, Golden poppy
The California poppy is the state flower of California and is considered an ancient plant whose origins are not entirely known. Native Americans in California prized them as a source of food and medicine. Tea made from the plant has a sedative, analgesic, and anxiolytic action. Research performed on California poppy shows that it possesses general sedative & analgesic activity and has a number of pharmacological actions such as inhibiting enzyme MAO type B, slowing the conversion of dopamine to norepinephrine, & reducing the activity of the alpha 2 adrenergic receptor. These actions combined help lift mood, reduce pain, lessen anxieties, relax muscles, & cultivate energy levels throughout the entire body & soul.
