Rehmannia is one of the 50 fundamental herbs of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is the premier tonic along with He Shou Wu for tonifying Kidney Yin. It is frequently referred to as the 'Food of the Kidneys'. Rehmannia nourishes the kidneys and adrenal glands, and in high doses elicits a release of adrenaline, endorphin, natural steroids, growth hormones, & more.

He Shou Wu is a beneficial ally for nourishment and vitality, it has a mild hormone balancing effect that helps balance testoterone levels and keep one feeling and looking young. Fo-ti has strong MAO-B (Monoamine oxidase B) inhibiting properties. MAO-B is what inactivates Dopamine, a vital neurotransmitter related to memory, focus, and learning. Youthfulness and low MAO-B levels have been linked and it is believed that by keeping MAO-B levels low one can preserve their youth and vigor. Is it any wonder, that the Chinese have regarded Fo-ti as the fountain of youth?

Astragalus makes an excellent adaptogen for helping the body rebuild energy and recover from times of sickness. It effectively improves how energy is taken in from oxygen and food while greatly enhancing the immune system. Astragalus improves breathing, adrenal function, the gastrointestinal tract, increases metabolism, reduce fatigue, promotes healing, and improves the immune system.

Cistanche is a tonic kidney herb, working much like Panax ginseng but working in a more nourishing rather than stimulating way, supporting sexual potency, counteracting fatigue, improving fertility for both sexes, reducing lower back pain, enhancing the immune system, supporting the circulatory system, improving memory, slowing signs of aging, and speeding up post workout recovery.

Panax ginseng is the original adaptogen and considered king of all herbs. Panax ginseng has been shown to slow the conversion of Dopamine to Norepinephrine, stimulate Testosterone synthesis, and activate the vasodilatory & aggressive beta-adrenergic receptors; these effects greatly increase sense of self-esteem, reduce anxiety and pain without sedation, while providing a potent androgenic hormone stimulating effect that increases libido and erectile response. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Panax Ginseng, or Ren Shen, is said to possess Sweet, Bitter, & Warm qualities & enter the Lung, Spleen, & Heart meridians while greatly strengthening Qi.

Kali musli is an Ayurvedic adaptogen that has been demonstrated to dose dependently increase testosterone levels in peer reviewed studies. The herb is traditionally used as an aphrodisiac and rejuvenative, as well as a general tonic.

Safed musli is another Ayurvedic adaptogen that has been demonstrated to increase circulating levels of nitric oxide, improving blood flow and eliciting a vasodilatory effect. The saponins in Safed Musli also nourish the sexual organs and support a healthy libido in both men and women.

Wild yam has been used throughout Asia, India, & Europe as a medicinal root for its hormone enhancing actions. Wild yam contains diosgenin, a compound very important to the medical industry as a precursor to hormones in a laboratory setting. Thanks to the structural activity of the compound, it and its metabolites are believed to have activity similar to some hormones, such as testosterone and progesterone.

Cordyceps mushroom has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries, modern research has also affirmed its value. In the Chinese system of medicine, Cordyceps is considered primarily a lung & kidney tonic, strengthening the ability of the lungs to generate Qi from breath, while both nourishing & stimulating Jing energy, which is housed in the kidneys. Scientific studies show the main activities of the fungus are oxygen-free radical scavenging, anti-aging, endocrine nourishing, cholesterol-reducing, cardiovascular tonifying, and sexual function-restorative activities. Furthermore, Cordyceps has mood-enhancing effects, stimulates the nervous system, improves glucose metabolism, greatly enhances relaxed deep breathing, protects the liver, tonifies the immune systems, has anti-inflammatory properties, and reduces damage that can occur from disorders of the kidney.

Fenugreek is a nutritious herb with many uses, finding its niche somewhere in between health and spices, like most other pleasant tasting tonic herbs. The seeds in addition to providing a variety of nutrients and phytochemicals that support general health, also have a particularly potent action at increasing the levels of growth hormones circulating in the human body. Fenugreek is traditionally considered a female tonic, increasing breast growth and milk production, but has a shared activity at increasing hormone count for both men and women.

Cinnamon in low doses produces a central stimulation effect which improves the absorption of herbs when consumed and also directs them to the organ it is associated with, which is the adrenal glands. In this way cinnamon guides and directs the other herbs in the blend.
