Fucoxanthin is a xanthophyll, a yellow pigment that occurs widely in nature which forms one of the two major divisions of the carotenoid groups. Metabolic and nutritional studies have indicated that fucoxanthin promotes fat burning within fat cells in white adipose tissue by increasing the expression of thermogenin. Fucoxanthin is being looked into for its anti-inflammatory, antinociceptive, and anti-cancer effects. A study has shown that fucoxanthin has strong effects on oxidative stress, oxidative stress-related diseases, and cancers. Fucoxanthin has been demonstrated to induce apoptosis of various cancer cells and has an inhibitory effect on the spread of cancer cells through suppressing the expression of gelatinolytic enzyme MMP-9. Fucoxanthin has also been shown to suppress the motility of melanoma cells.
Recommended amount per dose is 50-100 mg per day for normal supplementation.
Fucoxanthin is blood brain barrier permeable, fat soluble, and conveys potent and long lasting antioxidant effects. It belongs to the carotenoid family of vitamins and pseudovitamins, such as: Astaxanthin, Beta-Carotene, Lutein, Lycopene, and Zeaxanthin.
Do not consume without knowing an accurate dosage. A milligram scale is highly recommended.
