Pantothenic acid is an essential vitamin belonging to the B complex family. It cannot be synthesized by the body, so it must be derived from food, where it is found in most all foods, and especially so in whole-grain cereals, egg yolks, liver and dried mushrooms. Deficiencies are rare, but do happen and can lead to a gradual deterioration of one's health. To prevent such issues, cereal grains are often reinforced with additional pantothenic acid, while the vitamin is also commonly taken as a dietary supplement.
Pantothenic acid is responsible for energy metabolism and stimulates the oxidation of fatty acids, while a deficiency of can increase insulin sensitivity and reduce energy levels. Pantothenic acid has been linked to skin and hair health.
Recommended amount per dose is 5-25 mg per day for normal supplementation. Do not consume without an accurate mg scale.
