Folic acid is a vitamin belonging to the B complex family. It is an essential vitamin, and can not be synthesized by the body, but is commonly derived from food, where it is found in dark green leafy vegetables, fruits and fruit juices, nuts, beans, peas, dairy products, poultry and meat, eggs, seafood, as well as grains. Deficiencies are rare, but do happen and can lead to a gradual deterioration of one's health. To prevent such issues, cereal grains are often reinforced with additional Folic acid, while the vitamin is also commonly taken as a dietary supplement.
Folic acid is responsible for energy metabolism and is responsible for the biosynthesis of our DNA and RNA, plays a role as a co-factor in the creation of red blood cells, and is linked to the metabolism amino acids which are required for cell division.
Recommended amount per dose is less than 1 mg per day for normal supplementation. Do not consume without an accurate mg scale.
